Material Profile & Data

Hand-Split Metamorphic Engineering

Natural Indian Slates are fine-grained metamorphic stones composed of clay, sedimentary rock shells and quartz — they split cleanly into thin slabs, delivering an elegant cleft finish while resisting chipping, climate transitions and abrasion across both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Natural Indian Quartzites are non-foliated metamorphic rocks formed almost entirely of quartz through extreme heat, pressure and chemical activity. Their interlocking crystalline structure makes them incredibly tough.

Excellent Gloss Properties

Carries an organic shining property across copper, gold, multi and grey tones.

Tough Crystalline Structure

Quartzite provides optimal surfaces for shower enclosures and pool perimeters.

Roof Shingles & Walling

Natural split format used for traditional roof tiles, random rubble walls and cladding.

All-Weather Stability

Resists frost cycles, heavy UV radiation, delamination and surface wear.

Roof Shingles & Cladding

Natural split slate is the traditional material for heritage roof tiles and exterior random rubble wall cladding.

Pool Surrounds

Quartzite's crystalline hardness and non-slip surface is widely specified for pool decks and spa surrounds.

Walkways & Driveways

Slate's natural cleft surface provides excellent anti-slip characteristics for pedestrian walkways and pathways.

Exterior Facades

Both slate and quartzite are UV-stable and frost-resistant — widely used on exterior cladding across cold climates.

Technical FAQ

Slate & Quartzite — Common Questions

Slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock formed from clay — it splits along natural cleavage planes giving the characteristic layered cleft surface. Quartzite is formed from sandstone under extreme heat and pressure, resulting in a harder, more crystalline stone.

Yes — natural split slate at 4–6mm is the traditional roofing material in much of Europe, the UK and North America. Indian slate from Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan is widely exported for this application.

Yes, generally. Quartzite rates 7 on the Mohs hardness scale (same as quartz), while granite is typically 6–6.5. Quartzite is also tougher than marble (3–4 Mohs).

Natural slate tiles are full-thickness (7–20mm) stone for floors, roofs and wall cladding. Slate veneer is a 1.5–2mm flexible sheet for feature walls and curved surfaces.
